Yes and no. We do not manufacture the actual glass lockets. We DO create the pieces of jewelry, using sterling silver chain, toggles, freshwater pearls, gold vermeil chain and all of the other components, so the jewelry pieces are all made by hand by Jocelyn Drye.
The sterling silver lockets have a screw mechanism on the top of the locket. You can simply hold the silver ball/piece that sits directly on top of the square/circle and then rotate the locket while holding the screw piece in place. The silver ball/piece will unscrew up the bail of the locket allowing the locket to fold open at the bottom hinge. You place your inserts in facing outward, close the locket and screw the silver balll/piece in the downward position.
The small rectangular gold vermeil lockets have a side clasp. You unhook the clasp and the top lifts up from the hinge on the other side. The 2 pieces of glass slide out allowing you to put your inserts in between and slide them back in.
3. What are the 6 paper inserts that come with it?
The 6 paper inserts are piece of fun paper that are cut to fit into the locket. I supply these as an alternative to wearing photos in your locket. Some people wear a photo on the front and a paper on the back. You can change these papers out to match different outfits.
4. How do I get my photos that small?
YOU actually don't have to worry about that!! See FAQ number 5 below to find out more!
5. What is a Personalization Certificate?
When you purchase a Journey Locket, not only are you getting a unique keepsake piece of jewelry, you also get to use my photo personalization service! Each locket purchase comes with a Personalization Certificate. This piece of paper allows you to send me 2 photos via email. I then take those photos, resize, color correct, crop, print and cut to make perfect little inserts for your locket.
Please send color photos. Once I receive the photos I will duplicate them and change the duplicates to black and white. You will receive your locket inserts in both color and black and white, so you will get 4 total inserts with each purchase. (NOTE- Black and white originals cannot be changed to color.)
You send me 2 photos. I print them in color AND black and white, so you end up getting 4 INSERTS!
Each certificate contains the information on where to send your photos, along with all of the very important information I need with it, including the CERTIFICATE NUMBER. This number tells me what size and shape your locket is, so I can make the appropriate inserts.
*For online orders, you can choose to have a Personalization Certificate sent along with your (so you can order your inserts later) or you can choose to go ahead and email your 6 photos at the time you place your order. If you do this, I will send your inserts with the lockets at the time of shipping, You will not receive the Personalization Certificate in this case.
6. How do I know what photos will look best?
My suggestion when you are choosing photos is to pick photos that are close up (if you can) with simple backgrounds- solid light or solid dark usually work best). I do crop in on the faces as much as possible to create the best insert possible.
You also need to be aware of the final shape that your photo will be in. If you purchase a square locket, the insert end result will be a square. Look a the composition of your photo. The photos start out rectangular. Imagine putting a square around the image you want in your locket. If all of the people do not fit well in that square, it may not be the best photo to choose. The same goes for the circle lockets.
We can use photos with multiple people in them. You just need to be aware of how close the people's face are to make it work.

We can use professional photography, if you have the photographers permission to do this. Most will gladly allow this, so all you have to do is ask!
7. Can I get monograms or my initials to put in it?
Yes! We love creating the custom monogram inserts. You can shop for these here!
8. Can I get my necklace or bracelet made longer or shorter?
If you receive your piece and it doesn't quite fit perfectly, please send us an email and let us know that you would like to send it back to be lengthened or shortened and how many links you want added or taken out. That is no problem. This is a free service, but we do ask that you pay for shipping it back to you. We will make arrangements for you to pay online, a one time $8 charge to cover UPS ground shipping.
9. How do I know what size/length to buy?
The easiest way to determine what length is best is to measure an existing necklace or bracelet you have. Our bracelet sizes and necklace lengths are actually the length of the chain with the toggle. The locket adds to the drop of the necklace. Here are the measurements of the lockets so you can predict where the necklace will fall on your chest.
Extra Large Circle Silver Locket- 2 inch drop
Large Square Silver Locket- 1.5 inch drop
Small Round Silver Locket- 1.25 inch drop
Rectangular Gold Vermeil Locket- 1.25 inch dropIf you still aren't sure and you are of average physical build, most people are ok with the 17" necklace and the 7" bracelet.
10. Can I order a Journey Locket as a gift?
Yes! We have a new a gift option that you can add to your shopping cart. We will ship the locket directly to the gift recipient. Packaged nicely in a Journey Lockets box, with info about the product and how to use the Personalization Certificate that is included. We will also include your personal message hand-written on a note card and included with the gift. On our order page you can include your personal message for your gift in the Personalization Form in Step 2 of the order process.
If you order a Journey Locket piece online, you can expect to have itt within one week. If for some reason we cannot get it to you by then, we will let you know as soon as we receive your order.
When you send in your photos using your Personalization Certificate, you can expect about a week turn around on the inserts. During holiday time, please allow up to 2 weeks for delivery of the inserts.
12. Can I get updated photo inserts?
Yes! You can order additional photo inserts any time you like, as often as you like. We all know babies grow fast! You can update your photos of your babies several times a year if you want. Click here to go to the Photo Insert Reordering page.
